Sherrie Philon, Ed.S has served in the field of education for over 23 years, as an educator, educational
leader, and mentor. Her career began in elementary school but transitioned after 3 years into teaching
middle grades Math for 8 years. Her passion for teaching Math prompted her to pursue her Master’s
degree in Mathematics where she was one of five women in the program. After a ten-year career of
teaching, she realized that she loved developing student and teacher leaders.

Ms. Philon obtained her Educational Specialist degree in System Level Educational Leadership from
Mercer University. This allowed her to gain experience developing teacher leaders through her service
as an Instructional Coach, as well as state Testing Coordinator. Ms. Philon’s passion for equitable access
and education for all students prompted her to run for the public office of Rockdale County School
Board in 2014. While she did not win, this experience opened her eyes to the changes that need to be
made in educational policies. After working in both public as well as charter schools, the realization that
she must be the change that she wanted to see in the world, hence Philmore Academy for Science &
Arts was established in 2017. Her passion for the developmental of the next generation of leaders is at
the forefront of every experience that the scholars of Philmore Academy have. As the first minority

“Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” Once it is obtained it can’t be
taken away. Ms. Philon believes that all students can achieve greatness if they are placed in a place
